The Zipit® Enterprise Critical Messaging Solution™ has been recognized in the 2016 Gartner Market Guide for Clinical Communication and Collaboration (CC&C) platforms.

Barry Runyon, analyst at Gartner Inc. and author of the report, described the recent rise of clinical communication & collaboration platforms, saying: "Healthcare provider CIOs and clinical leadership have begun to deploy CC&C platforms more widely in an effort to better coordinate care, improve outcomes and avoid readmission penalties...In the main, CC&C systems can positively influence the patient experience and care team productivity."

Key finding: Clinical communication and collaboration (CC&C) systems have gained traction due to the increased use of mobile devices at the point of care and an industry focus on care quality, care coordination and the patient experience.

Zipit's solution, noted by customers for its distinct messaging workflows and notification capabilities for life-safety applications, has been commonly used to improve clinical workflows that have traditionally been inefficient and lacking standards of practice as a result of the use of traditional paging systems and phone calls. These communication methods lacked real-time insight into communication processes, were not HIPAA compliant, and inadvertently drew focus away from direct patient care due to technical limitations (such as one-way messaging or lack of encryption) that necessitated clinical workflows that were inherently inefficient.

Zipit Improves Clinical Workflow

"Give preference to CC&C vendors who have proven system integration and interoperability capabilities and whose product architectures and service delivery models are adaptable to changing business requirements and circumstances," said Barry Runyon, Analyst at Gartner, Inc. in the report.

To help improve the larger coordination of care across the healthcare continuum and provide additional value in alarm communication & notification applications, Zipit's cloud-based, clinical communication platform was designed to integrate with digital systems throughout the healthcare environment.

Examples of healthcare integrations currently in use by Zipit customers:

  • Directing nurse call button alerts to the appropriate nurse on their mobile device
  • Reducing alarm fatigue by assigning lower priorities to non-critical notifications or by routing device alarms to the appropriate contact
  • Assigning context to EHR/EMR alerts and triggers - ex: notifying physicians of critical lab values sooner or sending critical alerts based on triggers within the EMR
  • Utilizing Zipit's Smart Message™ workflows to assign/manage individual and team-based tasks (patient transport, Environmental Services, admission & discharge, etc.)

"We believe Zipit's recognition in Gartner's Market Guide for Clinical Communication & Collaboration report speaks to our focus and strength in providing our healthcare customers with a proven solution that can adapt to each organization's changing business requirements and unique physician workflows," said Frank Greer, CEO of Zipit. "We are dedicated to continue working in partnership with industry-leading organizations like Carolina HealthCare, Bon Secours, Palm Beach ACO, and others to deliver innovative solutions that support their organizational objectives now and into the future."
