About the Customer

A leading North American manufacturer and service provider focused on indoor pool dehumidification systems that protect indoor pool environments from excess humidity, which can lead to structural damage, corrosion, mold growth, poor air quality, and higher operating costs.

The company serves hospitality and recreation organizations across the U.S. and Canada. Through its services division, it delivers remote monitoring solutions along with service agreements for preventative maintenance.

The Challenge

As the company expanded its remote monitoring and managed service offerings, it needed reliable cellular connectivity to support IoT-enabled monitoring across customer sites across the continental United States and Canadian provinces.

The company was beginning an initiative to use Wi-Fi/cellular routers on its controls platform for remote monitoring services and needed a connectivity partner that could provide:

  • Coverage across North America
  • Multiple carrier options for stronger regional reliability
  • Appropriate plans and speeds for its monitoring use case
  • Operational simplicity as deployments scaled

By leveraging cellular connectivity, the business could also avoid depending on customer corporate Wi-Fi networks, which can create friction with customers' corporate IT security policies and potentially slow deployments of the company's IoT remote monitoring solution.

In addition, managing connectivity across multiple carriers through separate systems would have created unnecessary operational complexity and limited visibility.

The company chose to partner with Zipit Wireless because Zipit could support its remote monitoring strategy with multi-carrier connectivity, provide centralized SIM oversight, and offer a streamlined operational experience aligned to a growing, multi-region IoT deployment.

Key decision factors included:

  • Multi-carrier coverage across the U.S. and Canada, helping maximize connectivity reliability for devices deployed in different regions

  • A single-pane-of-glass platform for oversight and management across SIMs and carriers

  • The ability to bundle secure cellular connectivity with its units instead of relying on customer Wi-Fi

  • A partner that could support onboarding, usage controls, and evolving operational needs over time

The Solution

The customer was able to ship routers capable of cellular backhaul (and powered by Zipit's multi-carrier connectivity) alongside its dehumidification equipment to power its IoT remote monitoring solution. This gave the company a more deployment-ready and secure connectivity model for installed equipment.

Zipit-provided capabilities include:

  • Multi-carrier cellular connectivity across North America

  • Centralized SIM and carrier management through a unified platform

  • Data usage threshold notifications to improve visibility into consumption

  • Rules logic to auto-deactivate SIMs if they exceeded predefined usage thresholds, and to enable auto-reactivation at the start of a new billing cycle - this logic helps to control costs and prevent runaway data usage

  • Onboarding and support collaboration from Zipit's team for all things connectivity-related, tailored to the customers’ products and service model

This approach allowed the customer to support remote monitoring and service agreements more efficiently while maintaining tighter control over connectivity operations and cost management.

The Results

Since partnering with Zipit, the customer has seen significant growth in cellular-enabled line counts and data usage, indicating strong adoption of its IoT remote monitoring solution by customers.

Additional business impacts include:

  • Expanded ability to deliver remote monitoring across customer sites in the U.S. and Canada

  • Improved operational efficiency through centralized management across carriers and SIMs

  • Better cost control through automated usage threshold rules and SIM lifecycle management

  • Stronger technical foundation for the customer's managed monitoring and maintenance offerings

  • Continued connectivity support from Zipit to help the customer meet evolving use cases and a scale their installed base of connected devices
